ll piretro è un insetticida di origine vegetale estratto dal fiore Chrysanthemum cineriaefolium, dall' aspetto molto simile ad una margherita agisce rapidamente e presenta un'azione repelente, tenendo in tal modo lontani gli insett dagli ambienti trattati. Il piretro era noto già 2000 anni fà ai cinesi, dai quali giunse ai persiani attraverso l'antica Via della Seta. Solo nel XX secolo in occidente si scoprì che la "polvere insetticida persiana' era effettivamente ottenuta da un fiore, in grado di crescere solo con alcune condizioni climatche.
